English description

Established in 2003 following the model of Mulhouse City, the consultative district centers aimed at solving the issue of a lack of structured direct communication between the local administration and the citizens in the districts, and the difficulties in prioritizing the notifications (which are sometimes conflicting) submitted by the citizens. The councils usually meet in the district schools. The City Hall representatives who participate in the meetings inform the citizens on the projects that have an impact on their district, record the suggestions and problems, and answer the citizens’ questions. In between the meetings, the councils and the City Halls keep up communication via the Public Relations Office, which they also use to answer the notifications submitted during the meetings. Currently, there are 18 district councils in Timisoara. In the course of time, some of them managed to conduct – in partnership with other organizations – cultural events and other such projects that are useful to the community. With help from the local NGOs, the City Hall conducted campaigns to promote the district councils and training sessions for their members on the topic of participation in the process of decision making.

If in July there were approximately 900 cars per hour passing in both directions (out of which 25% was heavy traffic), in September and October, the number increased to 1,250-3,000 cars, 300-350 of which were from outside the city” – excerpt from the Official Gazette of Timisoara City Hall, 26635.
