„Natura 2000 – omul in armonie cu natura”

English description

This project stemmed from noticing that the list of future sites (at that time, in 2007) to be protected by Natura 2000 did not include some of the most representative natural areas, areas that are rich in biodiversity and shelter the most important species and habitats that are of interest to the community. Therefore, the Coalition decided to intervene in the decisions of the Romanian Government regarding the implementation of the Natura 2000 Ecological Network. Through its campaign, the Coalition succeeded in making sure that the most important areas were included in this European network.
After a lot of research, the Coalition put together the “Natura 2000 Shadow List in Romania”. This is an alternate list to the one issued by the Romanian Government, which contains representative areas with species and habitats that are important to the entire Europe. To be convincing, the Coalition set up an exhibition at the seat of the Romanian Parliament. They displayed pictures from the areas proposed on the Natura 2000 list, which marked out Romania’s natural capital: “The Retezat Mountain, the Gradistei Gorge, the Cocos Ridge in Maramures, the Danube Delta, Dumbravita in Brasov, Buila Vanturarita in Valcea, the Bucegi National Park, Piatra Craiului, the Apuseni Mountains became the focus point of photographers who wanted to raise awareness on protecting treasures that Europe has largely lost.” Throughout the campaign, the coalition representatives offered their expertise and held regular meetings with members of various state institutions that are responsible with implementing directives on environmental protection.
