English description

The local community of Rosia Montana is faced with a mining project that promotes a technology based on the use of cyanides for extracting gold.
Alburnus Maior is fighting for the citizens who are opposing the mining project on social, environmental, cultural and economic grounds. Their cause began a long time ago and Alburnus Maior has been fighting for years in all possible ways. One of the ways was to go to court. Alburnus Maior repeatedly initiated lawsuits against the authorities that, in the course of time, issued permits and approvals to the mining companies. He won many of the lawsuits and consequently, those permits were suspended or revoked. In some of the cases, the authorities did not comply with the court decision. Driven by his deep passion, Alburnus Maior did not stop with the Romanian courts of justice, but went on to the European Commission (Environment Directorate-General) and the European Parliament (Petitions Committee). Apart from the lawsuits, Alburnus Maior conducted countless public debates, press conferences and other public events.
