Ei trebuie să lucreze pentru tine - Învaţă cum să evaluezi consilierii din localitatea ta

English description

The project aimed at strengthening the responsibility of local elected officials towards the community. The citizens are not familiar with the tools they can use to monitor the performance of a local councillor. Moreover, they are less and less interested in politics and political decisions that primarily affect them.
The first step was for the IPP to send requests for public information to 20 town halls throughout the country. The next step was to draw up local monitoring reports based on the information they received (they had to take legal action against some of the town halls for refusing to supply the information they requested). These reports were disseminated throughout the communities via local press conferences. In order to make the results of the project visible, IPP conducted a training seminar for journalists and NGO representatives on the citizens’ access to information of public interest. Having learned the practice of requesting public information, the participants applied the Institute’s method of monitoring the local elected officials. CENTRAS (the Assistance Center for NGOs), a partner in this project, conducted public debates to enable the participants to make public their own monitoring reports. The project ran from April to December 2008.
