Inclusive Policy Making – with Citizens, for the Community

modified Thursday, 04 September 2008

Goal
CeRe offered assistance to public institutions and community groups from two small cities in developing a public participation process and inclusive public policies mechanisms. The project aims at creating a dialogue between citizens and public institutions in 2 communities, Giurgiţa (Dolj county) and Amara (Ialomiţa county) and encourage them to develop and implement participative processes.

Results

  • 2 decisions of the local public administration were made after consulting with the citizens;
  • an innovative public participation method was used for the first time in Romania: the first ctiziens' group was set up;
  • in Giurgiuta, a newsletter for the citizens was published for the first time in the community;
  • citizens from Amara and Giugiţa were informed with regards to the existing legislation on public participation and consultation and their associated rights;
  • organisations, community groups and public institutions from Amara and Giurgiţa improved their knowledge and abilities in processes of public participation;
  • 250 NGOs and public institutions found out through presentations of case studies that public participation is also possible in small communities.

[The project „Inclusive Public Policies - with Citizens, for the Community" was financed by the US Embassy in Bucharest.]
