For two years we have been discovering at The Public Participation Awards Gala – G3P people, institutions and organizations who managed to overcome their convenience, inertia and the lack of trust in the public authorities. Every year, through the stories and the people that we reward at the Gala we offer a concrete view over the concept of public participation and its benefits. The Public Participation Awards Gala is not only a contest, but a point of reference, an urge to say "look, we can do it!" whether we are talking about a regular citizen, a small organization, a group of citizens or a public institution.
CeRe – Resource Center for Public Participation is organizing the third edition of The Public Participation Awards Gala on the 10th of November. We invite you to enroll your successful story about advocacy or public participation until the 10th of October 2011 or to recommend one that you know.
At our last edition we celebrated the public participation in Romania with our 10 participants: the daring bikers from the Kick the Saddle Association, the citizens from the Bucharest Association, tireless hunters of estate agents who ruin the face of the city with their devastating projects, the saviors from Agent Green Association who stopped the demarches of asphalting the forest of Retezat, the people from Save a Life Association who keep an eye (and an ear) on the medical system in Romania, Mrs. Mihaela Mihalache, a mother who didn’t let herself become overwhelmed by the disabilities of her sons and contributed to opening a day care center for children with the same needs. We also saluted the force of the Warrior Princesses from SOS Infertility, we offered our admiration to the authorities from Iasi City Hall as well as to the people from the Roma Party in Braila who proved their force of will by managing to transform a garbage dump into a playground. We also speak each and every day about the other winners of the gala who enrich our list of participation models and special prizes: the rezidents from the Emil Garleanu Park area, the residents’ local association from the block B23 bis together with the Ring newspaper, the team of Take Our Money, but Nicely campaign and last but not least, the caricaturist Ion Barbu – the man who was awarded for being a CITIZEN.
